Overcoming Logistical Challenges in Nigeria

SSM Research Center, SSM and CLMI partner up to contribute to logistics challenges.

The Courier and Logistics Management Institute has partnered the Swiss School of Management and SSM Research Center to offer scholarship programmes to Nigerians willing to take up courses in Logistics Management. The Chairman of the Governing Council, CLMI, Prof Simon Emeje, while speaking at the SSM Open Day in Lagos, stated that the SSM reduced the tuition fee for interested participants by 60 per cent.

Emeje said the tuition, which was usually normally paid in Switzerland currency, would now be paid in local currencies to boost sustainable economic development in Nigeria and Africa. He said, “We have taken up the challenge and our job is to bring this vision to manifestation. We are on the path to reviving the professionalism in courier, logistics and transport management in the country. “We are adding value because the electives to be offered cover local content. This is a means to boost the technical competencies of Nigerians to tackle our challenges.” He added that the CLMI was borne out of the need to address courier, logistics, transport and management issues within the country.

Emeje said the CLMI was happy to partner the SSM and SSM Research Center to bring an important change to the country. According to him, the partnership seeks to offer B.Sc, M.Sc and PhD in logistics management as there is no institution across the globe today that offers such. Emeje said, “We have a target of training people and certifying them to create jobs and employment in these fields. This is a way to ensure the economy gets more professionals that are practically-trained to rethink the process of courier, logistics and transport. “This is a virgin career that our people should explore.”

The representative from the SSM, Prof Roberts Goedegebuure, during his presentation, stated that logistics was essential to every organisation. He said the goal of the partnership with the CLMI was to contribute to the economy and ensure a paradigm shift in the manner logistics was carried out in the country and the continent in general. “SSM has apportioned 60 per cent scholarship (60 per cent roundtable Africa) to fees payable by students as our contribution to the sustainable economic development on the continent,” Goedegebuure added.
